Vaccination centre and/or hospital opportunities!

Meet and Greet - Mass Vaccination Centre

Outline of Duties

  • To provide a welcoming presence at the entrance to the Vaccination Centre and assisting those who may feel anxious or apprehensive;
  • To provide information, reminding visitors to maintain compliance with all Covid-19 safety measures and to undertake a screening questionnaire at the start of their visit and feedback at the end.

Main Tasks

  • Welcome staff and visitors to the Vaccination Centre and advise of the process for entering the site;
  • Direct visitors to the location as required or through the appropriate pathway;
  • To undertake a screening questionnaire with all visitors on entry;
  • To undertake a feedback questionnaire with all visitors on exit;
  • Escalate identified issues or questions to the appropriate support;
  • Remind visitors of wearing masks, social distancing and hand hygiene procedures while on the site/in waiting areas To support with refreshments in the waiting areas.

Time Commitment

  • 2-4 hours per week between 9am and 7pm Monday - Friday and Weekends; 
  • On-site vaccination centres on weekdays;
  • Mass vaccination centres on weekdays and weekends, including evenings (times vary according to vaccination centre).

Meet and Greet - Hospital

Outline of Duties

  • To provide a welcoming presence at the entrance to the hospital by assisting visitors to overcome feelings of bewilderment and apprehension with the new health and safety guidelines;
  • To provide information, reminding visitors to maintain compliance with our visitor’s policy, social distancing, hand hygiene and the visiting considerations checklist.

Main Tasks

  • Welcome staff and visitors to the hospital and advise of the process for entering the site;
  • Provide up to date information in relation to the UHB visitor’s policy Remind visitors of the UHB’s visiting considerations checklist’;
  • Direct visitors to the location as required or through the appropriate pathway;
  • Escalate identified issues or questions to the appropriate support;
  • Remind visitors of wearing masks, social distancing and hand hygiene procedures;
  • To help answer appropriate queries To liaise with the Portering Service if someone needs to be pushed in a wheelchair to a ward or clinic.

Time Commitment 

2-4 hours per week between 9am and 3pm Monday - Friday

Meet and Greet (additional information)

Training and Support

  • Volunteers will need to undertake Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Training and Induction as well as an appropriate level of manual handling and violence and aggression training;
  • Training needs will be identified through the supervision process and met through Cardiff and Vale UHB Training Programmes.

Covid-19 Specific Guidance

  • All Volunteers will need to complete an individual risk assessment prior to starting;
  • All volunteers must be aware of the need to stop volunteering should they feel unwell or if they live with someone who has symptoms and to follow the latest government and NHS advice especially regarding COVID-19 symptoms;
  • Training, guidance and induction to be provided via e-learning or virtual technology where possible;
  • Volunteers must be provided with the required levels of PPE and be trained in the usage, donning, doffing, and disposal of PPE in line with UHB guidelines.

Location

  • Various sites across Cardiff and the Vale.

Reports to

  • SVC Project Coordinator and Identified area coordinator/lead Accountable to Voluntary Services Team (Cardiff and Vale Health Board).

Required Checks

  • DBS (criminal Records Check);
  • Occupational Health check;
  • Two References.

Expenses

  • Reimbursed travel to/from locations on day of volunteering.

Application process:

  1. Complete SVC's volunteer application form;
  2. Complete SVC's vetting form;
  3. DBS check;
  4. Complete Cardiff and Vale Health Board training and induction.

Please note:

  • You can apply to volunteer at the mass vaccination centres, hospitals or both;
  • We are currently looking volunteers to support at the mass vaccination centres in Splott, Pentwyn and Barry and support at hospitals in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan (University Hospital Wales and University Hospital Llandough);
  • Due to the nature of this project the vetting and training procedures takes some time. We thank you for your patience and understanding;
  • Volunteers will also be offered the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine at their first volunteering shift, but it is not mandatory to have the vaccine for this project;
  • Volunteers will be required to go to University Hospital Wales or Llandough University Hospital for their first volunteering shift in order to sign forms and receive volunteer uniform and ID.
