We're sorry, this project is not currently recruiting volunteers. You can see a list of our available projects here.

The Police Volunteering scheme was set up to help South Wales Police carry out various crime prevention campaigns and high visibility patrols. This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into what it’s like to be part of South Wales Police.

This project in Cardiff is a partnership between SVC, South Wales Police, Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, the University of South Wales and their Students' Unions, FOR Cardiff, Unite Students and Critical Arc.
In Cardiff, activities include:
  • Walkabouts, where volunteers work directly with Police Constables (PCs) and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) offering crime prevention advice around burglary and keeping properties safe to local residents.
  • ‘Safety Bus’, where volunteers assist the police to support individuals who appear vulnerable to crime, ensuring they are taken home safely and/or provided with advice about how to avoid crime.
  • Property marking sessions, during which volunteers help with giving students advice on how to keep their belongings safe and secure.
  • Community engagement events and many more!
The project is currently undergoing expansion into the Vale of Glamorgan, so opportunities available in the Vale are TBC.
This project requires specific vetting procedures organised by South Wales Police, plus project-specific training.
Commitment Requirements:
  • Community volunteers are required to volunteer 8 hours per month across the calendar year
  • Student volunteers are required to volunteer 12 hours per month across the academic year
