Digital FAN Facilitator for Adults with Disabilities

Who: Anyone 18+

Where: Digital

When: Flexible

Contacts: Charlotte Lavery

FAN (Friends and Neighbours) is a charity who runs digital and in person meetings, which are all centred around meeting new people, practising english and building community.

They are structured sessions which allow each individual a turn to speak, talk about their day and ideas around a topic (each session will be a differnt topic e.g. food or friends). After the individual has had their turn, they listen to the others in the group.

This model has had massive benefits for the people who attend FAN meetings regularly, and we want to replicate this with the people we support - enabling new friendships to form, and a place for people to be heard.

The structure of the session usually follows

- Introduce yourself

-Chat about your week

-Thoughts on the session topic e.g. friends

SVC are looking for 2 volunteers to run digital sharing sessions with adults with disabilities, using the FAN structure.

SVC and FAN will provide training, and support to these volunteers so that they are familiar with the FAN structure, and working with people with disabilties. The SVC project coordinator will also be available to provide support to the volunteers around the sessions.

We are looking to run these sessions in the evening on a monthly basis. Volunteers will work with the project cooridnator to plan the date. Sessions should run for approx. 1hr.

If you are intersted in this role, please contact C.Lavery@svcymru.org. You will be invited to an informal chat about the project, and if successful SVC will provide training and an enhanced DBS check.
