Trustee Week: Natalie

I’m Nat and I am the Chair of the SVC Board of Trustees! My role involves governance of the charity and overseeing decisions regarding its strategic and financial direction. This can include organising and facilitating regular trustee meetings, being aware and discussing policy issues, and acting as a ‘spokesperson’ for the charity.

I started volunteering with SVC during my first few weeks at university, on the ‘Weekenders’ project. I enjoyed the experience so much that I went on to co-ordinate the project in my second year! Following from this, I joined the Board of Trustees as an Events and Fundraising Officer in 2016.

Becoming involved, be that as a volunteer or trustee, has been an overwhelmingly rewarding experience. It has emphasised the positive impact that volunteering has on service-users, volunteers and the local community. I have met a wonderfully diverse range of people, worked within a team to organise events and make decisions, but most importantly, experienced first-hand the difference that SVC makes. Taking on the role of Chair, in 2017, has allowed me to further appreciate this relationship by learning about the ‘behind the scenes’ management and strategy aspects of the third sector!

I would encourage everyone to get involved with a cause that they care about - a little can go an incredibly long way! I am excited to see what the upcoming year holds for SVC and am honoured to have the opportunity to support and contribute towards the incredible work that the charity does.
