Trustee Week: Sam

Hi I’m Sam and I’m one of SVC’s events and fundraising trustees this year. I’m a final year psychology student at Cardiff University and have just returned to university after completing my placement year at Mental Health Services for Older People in Cardiff.

I have been volunteering with SVC for a few years now. Last year I was a lead volunteer for Weekenders, a project that provides respite for young carers and am continuing as a lead volunteer on the project this year. I also volunteer on Fantastic 4 party planners and Whale of a time Wednesdays. I love volunteering with SVC and it’s great to see the positive impact the projects have for beneficiaries. After seeing first-hand the amazing work SVC does I really wanted to get more involved this year. Joining the board was a great opportunity to do so and I’m glad to be part of such a great charity!

My role as an events and fundraising trustee involves planning and organising lots of SVC events including fundraising events such as the duck race as well as one off events for beneficiaries such as the Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party. The role of a trustee also involves supporting decisions the board makes, providing input and ideas and supporting the staff and volunteers. I’m excited to have a more active role in SVC this year and am really pleased to be able to help in planning some great event.
