Befriending in Health and Social Care (Volunteer to Career Opportunity)

We are looking for a handful of volunteers who are interested in gaining experience in health and social care supporting adults with disabilities. 

You will volunteer as part of a 16 week placement. If your placement is successul you will be recommended for an interview into paid work with our partners at Innovate Trust. 

The Role of a Volunteer Befriender

• To befriend an adult with a disability by meeting weekly for 3-4hrs to do a range of weekly activities. 
• These can include anything from going to the cinema, day trips, arts and crafts, going for a meal, you name it!
• SVC will pair a volunteer with a beneficiary based on shared interests and they will meet together each week. 
• Volunteers will be matched with a beneficiary either in the Cardiff, Rhondda Cynon Taff or Vale area (but we will do our best to match you as close together as we can). 
• Please note: volunteers are required to have a DBS certificate in order take part on Befriending

Aims:

• The aim of this project is to offer social and emotional enrichment to beneficiaries through befriending and facilitating a range of activities.
• In addition, volunteers will provide compassionate support and amity, and help relieve feelings of boredom, loneliness and isolation.
• Through engagement, the beneficiaries will develop their social skills, gain confidence and achieve personal goals.
• This project is invaluable to beneficiaries as befriending improves perceptions of well-being, reduces stress and increases self-esteem and empowerment. Seeing the progress beneficiaries make is always a very rewarding experience for volunteers!

Supported living:

• This service supports beneficiaries who are being supported by our sister charity Innovate Trust. 
• Innovate Trust is a supported living charity who supports people across Cardiff, Rhonnda Cynon Taff and The Vale of Glammorgan. 

Application process:

1. Complete SVC's volunteer application form (which is on our website)
2. Be invited for an informal interview 
3. Complete vetting documents with our support
4. Complete sector specific training
