Who: Anyone aged 18+

Where: Cardiff

When: Wednesday Afternoon

Contacts: Georgia Taylor

Volunteering at the Huggard Centre is a valuable opportunity for students and community volunteers to befriend and facilitate activities for adults who are currently experiencing homelessness in Cardiff.

The Huggard Centre is seeking volunteers to support clients attending the Intervention Centre on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00–4:00 pm.

This project benefits people experiencing homelessness by helping them feel part of a community, while the activities support their wellbeing and social inclusion.

Volunteers are welcome to join over the summer or start in September.

About the Huggard Centre

The Huggard Centre is Wales’ leading centre for people experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping.

For more than 30 years, the Huggard Centre has supported individuals who are living on the streets, sofa surfing, or experiencing homelessness in Cardiff.

Volunteers will support the Huggard Centre at its Intervention Centre, where clients’ immediate and practical needs are addressed. Clients can take a shower, change their clothing, wash their clothes and access hot drinks and food from the commercially equipped kitchen.

The Huggard Centre is also where many clients spend their days while waiting for accommodation, meaning that many use the Centre’s social spaces. Clients are encouraged to contribute to life within the Centre by helping out in the building, garden and allotments. Clients can take part in furniture upcycling projects, or volunteering in the kitchen and Café H (situated on the grounds of the Huggard Centre).

The aim of these activities and volunteering opportunities is to boost clients’ confidence and independence, helping them build and maintain relationships with the people and services supporting them.
