Welcome to Skills & Volunteering Cymru (SVC), where our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Based in Cardiff, SVC is a volunteering charity dedicated to combatting loneliness and isolation across South Wales through a variety of impactful projects. From supporting individuals with disabilities to empowering young people, our volunteers play a crucial role in creating positive change in our communities.

At SVC, our volunteers embody these values every day, dedicating their time and energy to support individuals with physical and/or learning disabilities, young people and carers, elderly individuals and those experiencing loneliness or isolation alongside many more beneficiaries.

Volunteering with SVC offers a myriad of benefits for individuals like Lucie, Nina, Matthew and Mia. Lucie, a dedicated trustee, emphasises the inclusivity and respect within SVC's board, where everyone's ideas are valued, and opportunities for involvement abound. Nina, another long standing trustee, finds joy and fulfilment in staying connected with her local community through practical, impactful volunteering opportunities. Matthew, a second-year Psychology student, highlights the invaluable experience gained through SVC's NHS Placement scheme, broadening his skills and providing opportunities for personal growth while making a difference in the lives of mental health patients. Mia's journey from dedicated volunteer to a community project coordinator exemplifies the transformative power of volunteering, where she found purpose, developed confidence, and built meaningful relationships while making a positive impact in mental health wards. Through their diverse experiences, Lucie, Nina, Matthew, and Mia demonstrate the enriching and life-changing benefits of volunteering with SVC, fostering personal growth, community connection, and positive change.

Volunteering at SVC not only transforms individual lives but also leaves a significant mark on the broader community and society. In the span of 2022-2023 alone, SVC facilitated a remarkable 502 volunteer opportunities across 29 diverse projects. This collective effort amounted to an outstanding 15,000 hours of volunteer work, generously dedicated by passionate individuals committed to making a difference. Through these initiatives, SVC reached out to over 8,000 beneficiaries, providing crucial support and fostering positive change in various aspects of their lives.


These statistics underscore the immense impact of volunteering at SVC, illustrating the tangible outcomes of volunteer efforts. Each hour contributed by volunteers translates into individual support for the community, with an estimated volunteer value of £217,642. Beyond the numbers, numerous anecdotes attest to the transformative power of volunteering, from providing companionship to elderly residents in nursing homes to facilitating engaging activities for mental health patients.


By harnessing the collective energy and dedication of volunteers, SVC not only addresses immediate needs but also cultivates a culture of compassion, inclusivity, and social responsibility.
