SVC Newsletter

👋 It’s been a busy and uplifting month at SVC, filled with performances, awareness days, and plenty of fun across our projects. From choir performances to community events, it’s been brilliant to see everyone coming together, building confidence, and enjoying new experiences.

📅 Events & Activities

🎤 Shiny Happy Choir Performance

Our Accessible Choir performed at Vision 21 Cyfle Cymru in front of family, friends, and guests from across Cardiff. We were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Cardiff and Lady Mayoress to the performance. It was a bright, uplifting morning - thank you to everyone who came along to support!

🎉 Friday Friends Fun

We’ve had a fantastic few weeks at Friday Friends!
From music bingo to high-energy discos with Kate and Steph from Shiny Happy People, alongside arts and crafts and even a bowling trip - it’s been a brilliant mix of activities. It’s been amazing to see everyone growing in confidence, trying new things, and most importantly, having fun together.
👉 Friday Friends is part of the Co-op Local Community Fund.

💙 Young Carers Action Day

This month we recognised Young Carers Action Day - a really important reminder that young carers deserve the same opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive. At SVC, our Young Carers Club offers exactly that - a chance to take a break, have fun, and connect with others. We run trips for both children and teens, including visits to County Hall, swimming, ice skating, and more!

👉 If you or someone you know could benefit, please get in touch for more information.

📚 Awareness & Training

💚 Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month

March marked Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. Our team wore green and took part in a learning session led by Ad, our SVC Manager, who shared her personal experience as a parent of a child with CP. The session helped us better understand how to support, educate, and celebrate the individuals we work with.

💜 Epilepsy Awareness (Purple Day)

We also marked Epilepsy Awareness Day, with staff and volunteers wearing purple and taking part in training delivered by Irene at Respect Care & Training LTD. It was an insightful session highlighting how epilepsy impacts daily life beyond seizures, and how we can better support those affected.

🤝 Community Highlights

🍔 Huggard Centre BBQ

We joined the Huggard Centre for their first BBQ of the year - and it didn’t disappoint!
A huge thank you to all volunteers involved for making the afternoon so special. There was great food, great company, and we even managed to dodge the rain (mostly!).
We’re already looking forward to the next one.
